Mon, September 21, 2015 @ 12:15 pm - 10:05 pm
An event every week that begins at 12:15 pm on Monday, repeating until Mon, December 14, 2015
Qigong is a meditative spiritual and physical practice that is the basis for Taiji. The practice of Qigong coordinates breathing, physical motion and mental awareness. Qigong is a way of renewing your internal energy and restoring equilibrium by focusing on the breath and on circular movements that have their origins in nature. Joints, muscles, internal organs and energy systems are affected by slow gentle movements working with gravity and initiated through the breath. Qigong quiets the mind, opens the circulatory system, aligns the body and resonates in the spirit.
Meg Harper, a former member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (1967-1977) and the Lucinda Childs Dance Company (1979-1990), has been studying Taiji and Qigong since 2003. She teaches classes for seniors in the Bronx through Presbyterian Senior Services, in Brooklyn at Emmanuel Baptist Church, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and at First Presbyterian Church, NYC. Her focus is on the meditational aspect of Qigong, seeking to share the experience of sensing, collecting and moving energy throughout the body.
