Discover your deepest core. Brendan Drake believes that Pilates strengthens the physical body to support greater ranges of movement. This 60-minute class will move you through classical Pilates mat exercises with a contemporary approach. Our focus will be to build strength through the release of unnecessary muscle tension. We will incorporate the use of breath, imagery, and anatomical alignment so the necessary muscles can do their job.
These classes are accessible to all! Pilates exercises were developed to support bodies in all stages of life, from healthy to injured.
Brendan Drake is a New York based Choreographer and Teacher whose work has been presented at Gowanus Loft, Triskelion Arts, HERE Arts Center and Movement Research among others. He is a 2015 recipient of a CUNY Dance Initiative Grant from Baruch College and a 2016 Artist in Residence at The Tank. In addition, he choreographed the fall 2014 “Equality = Love” campaign for Adidas Originals/Pharrell Williams and editorial shoots for Elle Magazine, Cate Blanchett, and Lorde.
Brendan found Pilates after multiple injuries started to sideline him from a career in dance. His ever increasing interest in promoting injury prevention through mindful movement led him to his certification from the Kane School for Core Integration under the direction of Kelly Kane. He currently teaches privately at Soundmovement in Larchmont, NY in addition to various group classes at Kinected. By incorporating a lifelong education of movement along with the teachings of Irene Dowd, Susan Klein and of course, Mr. Joe Pilates himself, Brendan’s goal is to provide a positive movement experience by empowering clients to feel free within their bodies.
