An event every week that begins at 3:30pm on Monday, repeating until Mon, June 11, 2018
Introducing elements of modern dance through physical practice, creative movement and composition for ages 6-12. The first hour of this class builds on the fundamental strength, mobility, coordination, and balance of young dancers through technical practice and creative exploration. A guided warm up activating each body part in all directions introduces a broad vocabulary of steps, positions, and dynamics on which we build each week. Improvisation scores and games develop embodied awareness of abstract concepts like shape, scale, speed, weight, etc. The second hour of this class applies these skills to making, workshopping, and performing student choreography. This class series will culminate in a final showing on Monday, June 11.
