8:15pm Evening Class w/ Mina Nishimura ++
Thu, September 17, 2015 @ 8:15 pm - 9:45 pm
Inside Out- Transformation of Form
This class offers a series of somatic, breath and movement practices developed with influences from butoh, Noguchi Taiso (Japanese somatic practice) and release techniques. These practices are designed to sensitize your perception and feelers, to discover hidden landscapes within your body, and ultimately to connect internal realms with external forms. Specific languages and images from butoh-fu (butoh notation) may be also introduced in the class.
Mina Nishimura (Performer), from Tokyo, was introduced to butoh and improvisational dance through Kota Yamazaki’s teaching. While performing with influential choreographers such as Neil Greenberg, David Gordon, RoseAnne Spradlin, DD Dorvillier, Daria Fain, Yoshiko Chuma, Trajal Harrel, Marten Spanberg, Moriah Evans, Cori Olinghouse and Leah Morrison, she makes her own work which has been presented at Dance Theater Workshop, The Kitchen, Danspace Project, Movement Research, Roulette, Whenever Wherever Festival (Tokyo), Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Mount Tremper Arts Summer Festival among others. Nishimura was the danceWeb scholar at Impuls Tanz (Vienna) in 2009, and was a curator for MR Spring Festival 2013. She was also the artist-in-residence at Brooklyn Art Exchange in 2010-2011, at Chez Bushwick in 2013 and at Movement Research (2013-2015) in New York. During these years, Nishimura has taught at Bennington College (VT), Ferris University (Japan), Whenever Wherever Festival (Tokyo), Sunday Process Lab at Movement Research (NY) , and Moving Arts Lab at Earthdance (MA).
