Sept. 30 Opening Event
We are interested in destabilizing expectations for a genre while making exciting program that explores the more mysterious and unexamined connections between a diverse group of artists and their work.
In this series we are wondering, what are current dance film artists asking, and how are they creating their work? What kind of spaces exists for these artists to study, discuss, and generate material concerned with the body as it is examined, celebrated, captured, and suspended by the camera while simultaneously being the social, political, existential, physical, ephemeral and fundamental vehicle of all human experience. Everyone has a body, every film moves, for every cinematic experience there is a visceral experience of the body in time, movement is grounded in the persistence of the body in time, and what is cinema if it is not a manipulation, capture, an archive of this.
