Adaptable Apple is an exploration of collaboration and process. The multidisciplinary series began in 2014 (between multimedia artists (Michelle Golden and Remi Harris). Several versions of Adaptable Apple were presented as live performance collaborations in dance studios, galleries and theatres in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The series will now expand into a curated exploration of artists and community at BkSD. The program, running June – December, will highlight three artists in a gallery hang. In addition to the visual presentation there will be a workshop component that will seek to highlight and investigate the relationship between artist and process. These workshops will invite community participants into further understanding of the artist’s practice and give them a chance to be immersed and collaborate in their own right. Adaptable Apple will culminate in a group presentation with all three artists in December 2017.
About the Artists:
Matthew Hefferon: I picked up my first video camera in high school. At first, it started purely as a way to document ridiculous things my friends and I could drum up. Pure documentation quickly turned to storytelling and soon I started to understand the power of composition. As I started to dive into manual camera functions, I became infatuated with the never ending equation of variables that makes up an image. I carried around a small point and shoot camera everywhere I went. It helped me slow down time and bring attention to all the mundane aspects of life I constantly overlooked. I loved finding beauty in unusual places. Rust became my first infatuation. The colors created by oxidation are gorgeous. Deep oranges and reds hidden in places humans never pursue. I currently serve as a Broadcast Engineer maintaining all distribution equipment responsible for sending national programming to NBC’s 200 plus affiliates. During my spare time, I have continued to refine my craft, freelancing as a content creator for various clients from musicians to small businesses. This wide array of work from productions large and small has primed me for any creation scenario. www.matthewhefferon.com

Amanda Espiritu: Since she was a young girl, Amanda has been fascinated with art and visual culture, embracing drawing and painting as a means of self expression. As she continued to explore other cultures and different forms of art and storytelling, she began crafting her own stories and poems, which starts to inform her art. Born in Los Angeles in 1992, Amanda has lived in several cities including Manila, San Francisco, London, and Boston. She captures her passion for traveling and people’s love of live and adventure in her photography and her short stories. Amanda currently lives in NYC and works in advertising. www.amandakespiritu.com
